Generating Fine Art Ideas

Generating Fine Art Ideas

Editing images from reference

16/06/16

To begin my project, I have taken some images off f the internet that I wish to use as references, which I will later draw up in my own style and scan.

The first image I have used is of Donald Pleasance playing his role as the James Bond villain from the film 'You Only Live Twice'.

All I have done is removed the background of the image and adjusted the contest and brightness after completely desaturating the image. so that, when I test out my idea of stencilling the image, I have a reference to the shaded areas and highlighted areas.

Once I have created the image, I will scan it in and edit it slightly i photoshop if needed, and then I can focus on where I would place the design on the postbox template, and if it would actually work.

I will be further extending my idea by taking another one of the films he has been in, 'Dracula'. I am planning to take an image of him as the character, but adding in elements from the movie poster, such as the clouds and the title, wish i will draw out or paint and then sketch in. As for the portrait of the character itself, I may continue with my stencil idea.

To create paintings and drawings of clouds, I have taken images from the internet that were similar to the clouds on the Dracula poster, or that has similar colours

The main reference image I chose to use was the one above because of the vibrant and pastel colours that run through it, and because of the dark sky behind it which had numerous different colours in it.

The image I created was similar, and was first done using watercolours as a base, which I then lattes different coloured chalks over the top to create a similar effect. This drawing I will then scan in and edit in Photoshop to adjust the colours so that they are even more vibrant and colourful, so that j can then decide whether or not to use it in a design, and the placement of the image if I do choose to use it.
