Experimentation with paint
05/05/16
To begin my experimentation with paint, I wanted to also experiment with structure, especially with making a 2D piece into a 3D structure.
I used grey board and string, and by putting holes into the grey board and tying the string around it. by pulling the string tight I was able to manipulate the shape of the grey board.
The first was purely a test to see how it would work, and so I applied the string in a simple manner.
After the test piece, I then used a piece of grey board that I had covered in paint and applied the string in the same way but in a different pattern. I realised that after a while because of how I was placing the string, it started to become less taut, at which point I stopped applying the string before all of the string started slacking.
I liked the colour scheme that I had been using in the past few experiments, so I wanted to continue using the colours, but I wanted to try applying it in different ways.
Overall, I feel like the colours go well together, however, I didn't like the fact that even though I was trying to apply the colours in different manners, because of the nature of the paints, it was very difficult to make the patterns look much different. I realise that if I continued to do this, I would eventually hit a wall, so I started moving in a different direction without moving too far away from what I had already done.
I liked the way that Wall Paint applied, and so I wanted to continue using it, but rather than applying it to an object as I had done before, I wanted to see ow I could vary the patterns onto paper.
Because of the nature of the green and light blue paint, it was very easy to control where I placed it, however, the dark blue paint, which was just watered down acrylic, it was a lot harder to control and also didn't flow as well.
