Bevel and Emboss

30/11/15

Bevel and Eboss allows you to add shadows behind something you have created to give it either a raised effect or a sunken in effect. I wanted my logo to look like it was raised from my box design, and so wanted to use this technique.

Because my logo was created in Illustrator, I first had to move it into Photoshop, which is where the Bevel and Emboss option is.

My current logo
Once I had moved it into photoshop, I could then begin adding the shadow. to do this, you go into layers and double click on the layer you want to add the effect onto. When you do this, a box should appear.

The Bevel and Emboss is one of the first options that appears on the left hand side of the box. When you click on it, it comes up with numerous more options. You can change the style to one that suits you, as well as the depth of the shadow. you can change this to your liking.

I changed mine to how I wanted it and then pressed okay. The end result was a slight shadow that looked as though my logo was slightly raised.

Once I had done this, I then had to export the image from photoshop and back into illustrator. to do this, you select the logo, and go into the Select option and click inverse.

You then go into the path selection, which is next to where the layers option is. You make a new work path, okay it, save the new path, okay it, and then select clipping path. Once you have done this, you save it and then open it in Illustrator.

When in Illustrator, go into the file option, and near the middle of the list, there is the place option. When you click on this, it brings up a box that allows you to click on a file, which will then place it in the Illustrator document.

When placed, you can then move it to where you want it in the document.
