Fashion Illustration and Illustrators

03/10/15

While I will be incorporating my research into fabrics into my idea still, I will be moving forwards into actually joining my ideas of fashion and illustration into something that I can then link to the main theme of over-design and Chindogu.
Illustration allows me a lot more freedom of idea and also allows me to experiment more with the main theme without getting stuck.

Fashion illustration links two of my interests (Fashion and Illustration) into one idea that I can comfortably work, explore and experiment with. I will be looking into different fashion illustrators so that I have some inspiration, which will then enable me to come up with and develop my own unique style of fashion illustration

How this links to Chindogu:

My idea will link to Chindogu and the over-design of things because I will be drawing the designs from a particular fashion designer as well as incorporating my own style into it, and so hopefully, I will be able to change the designs so that, even though they are still recognizable, they are completely different and over-designed.

Fashion Illustration: The communication of fashion that originates within illustrators drawings and paintings. Usually commissioned for reproduction in magazines as one part of a, editorial feature or for the purpose of advertising and promoting fashion makers, boutiques and department stores.

To build on my idea, I will be looking into editorial and fashion illustrators, window display and street fashion. As well as this, I will be practicing my illustration skills by making quick sketches of fashion I see within real life situations, so as to get a feel into Runway illustration.

The designer that I want to base my illustrations off of is Elie Saab

Elie Saab

Saab is a Lebonese Fashion Designer. His main workshop is in Lebanon, while he has others in Paris and Milan. His style is a fusion of Western and Eastern culture and he uses noble materials such as taffetta, organza noble and satin, paired with more fluid and light fabrics.
