Posts Design Competition
10/05/16
For Unit 76, we are to create a wrap to go on a postbox for a competition run by the Sheffield Institute of Arts, to celebrate its movement into the Sheffield head post office in the city centre.
The post box's design should feature something that boasts of the local community of those designing them, which in my case, is Worksop.
My general idea is to create a design that, to other people, is just an image of a person, or else a film related image, but as the creator, I will know that it holds an element of my community because I know that the person is from the place I am trying to represent.
Rather than my design featuring the physical aspects of Worksop and it's surrounding areas, I have decide to focus the design onto the people who were born in Worksop that have made a name for themselves, particularly Donald Pleasance.
Donald Pleasance:
Donald Pleasance is a well known actor, recognised mainly for his part as Ernst Stavro Blofeld in the 1967 movie adaption of Ian Flemmings "You Only Live Twice"
After some experimentation and thought about placement, I decided that by using the James Bond opening in which you 'see' down the barrel of a gun, I could incorporate a James Bond theme whilst still keeping the classical 'Pillbox red' that you associate with postboxes in Britain.
By using the Gun barrel, I could then create a space in which I could fit an image of Blofeld in a position that meant that most of the design would be visible without loosing important parts due to the features of the postbox.
