Making Garments

30/01/16

After creating some headpieces using simple techniques and some plant clippings, I decided to see if I could bring the same methods into making a dress in a similar way.
Using similar materials, such as twine, I began by making a simple neck line, which is can be adjusted at the back by tightening or loosening the string, and then added another section of twine so that the top of the dress began to take shape. The strand of string that goes under the bust is also adjustable at the back through tightening or loosening the stand.

The skirt is simply another stand, which is yet again, adjustable at the back, which has two small strands at either side on the hips that are tied to the strand that goes under the bust so that the entire dress is connected. This means that when it comes to actually putting it in and taking it off, it stays together and is easily readjustable.

The idea of the dress is that it is to be worn overtop of something, since the materials I am using are rather corse, it could cause irritation to the wearer. This prevents that issue.

The skirt is made up of twine that has been tied to the strand at the waistline and plaited to make a fringe effect. I will eventually build this up so that it is thick and there are very little gaps.

The twine part of the dress is simply a base so that I can then put the ivy over the top of it, and so that I had something I can attach it to, hopefully, without very little means of using things such as glue, as I want the dress to be as natural as possible.
