Visits and Trips
Lincoln University and Nottingham Trent University
06/06/15
This trip consisted of walking around the exhibitions of students work from two universities; Lincoln and Nottingham- Trent, as well as some smaller galleries in the area. Personally, I prefered the exhibitions more at Nottingham- Trent than at Lincoln, however the gallery visits in Lincoln were more interesting to me than thise in Nottingham.
The first visit took place at Lincoln University. The work here was very different to that at Nottingham- Trent, and was a lot more paper based. There were only two rooms of the exhibition that didn't contain computer based work. This I found less appealing as I prefer to look at paintings and 3D work to portfolios containing computer based work.
My favourite part of this exhibition was the Illustration work, as it is what I am most interested in. I found some artists whose work was to m taste, and which I liked very much, such as Rachel Avalla and Alison Boyland. These two artists caught my eye because their work was most appealing to me due to their use of people as the focus for their illustration and the general style of the artists. Rachel Avalla's work was more colourful and used block colours and very simple and yet eye catching characters, where as Alison Boyland's work was less bold with colour and used shading and the use of maps within her work. Out of the two, I preferred Alison Boyland.
Nottingham Trent's exhibitions included a lot more work that caught my eye, both 3D and illustrative. Though Illustration is what I am very interested in, the illustration at this exhibition was a lot different to what I expected, and seem mostly computer based. My favourite exhibitions within this University were by the fashion and textiles students, as this is another field that I am rather interested in, and have been for most of my life. My favourite artist was fashion designer and illustrator, Rachel Foreman, of whose work I have heard of before. Her work was very colourful and was the embodiment of what I hope to achieve with my artwork. Her textiles work was very beautiful and her illustration work was even more so. My favourite piece from the whole exhibit, however, was by Emma Bott, who's piece caught my eye because of the style. She had done some print work, but had also incorporated textiles into it.
