Life Drawing
Using Wet Media (Paint)
26/01/15
While we were using paint, we weren't using paint brushes, and were to use our hands like we had previously done. We were only allowed to use the primary colours, white and Burnt Umber, for definition. We were to focus on the highlights and low lights, and pay particular attention to any other colours reflected on the skin.
I focused mainly on the shoulders and shoulder blades for this particular piece, and found that I enjoyed a method of pointilism. I was constantly dabbing my fingers on the paper, using a different finger for each colour so as to avoid mixing the colours up. This resulted in a bright and bold block coloured piece that wasn't neat or too messy.
For this piece I tried using all of my hand, rather than just my fingers as I had previously. instead of dabbing the paint on, I wiped it onto the page using the side of my hand, making sure that, this time, the colours blended on the page. The over all effect was striking, however a little unintelligible.
Next time I do life drawing, I will be sure to step back from the easel once in a while so that I can see what my work looks like in comparison to the model. This will help me build on getting the correct proportion and will also help widen my perspective.
