Research into Typographical Design

15/03/16

The research I made into typography was aimed at finding colourful and unique designs that ranged from just lettering, to objects made out of words and to actual pictures made out of, or including words. These posters and designs then served as inspiration for my own ideas.

I liked this design because each of the letters were made up of various different shapes, all of different colours. It was mainly the colours that appealed to me, as well as the small detailed designs that surrounded the main design that filled up some of the empty space. It isn't very clear and takes time to decipher what it actually says, which is what I like about it, as it makes it even more intriguing to look at.

I like this design a lot less than most of the others, but that is mainly because it is very cramped up with words and they all overlap each other, while the font used is very standard and boring, and has been shaped so that it fits the shape of the design, which in some cases makes it very unclear to read, however, despite that, I do like that it makes the shape of a hand.

This design is very brightly coloured and neat. What I don't like about it, however, is the use of smiley faces and hearts to fill up space, which to me, is rather juvenile. Aside from that, I like the multiple different fonts that have been used in such a way that they aren't so different so that flow together, and I like the simple yet bold graphic at the top that makes the actual design into an abject rather than just words.

What I like about this design is simply the font, and how it seems to frame itself. I also like how it almost looks like something drawn on a chalkboard.

I like the bright clashing colours of this design, and how the bold shadowing on the text makes it a lot easier to read than if it didn't have it.

With this design, I like how the image itself is just a gun, however, if you actually read the words that are inside, it puts the image into context

With both this design and the design above, I like how the text curves and changes to create a face, and how the words themselves actually tell you who the person is, if you didn't already know, through use of quotes or titles of films and such that they have been in. I like how there is one colour running throughout the entire design, which makes it a lot clearer and also gives it more of an impact than something that had multiple colours in it.

Much like the designs above, I like how the font in shaped to create the actual shape of the item it's meant to be, and how it is compromised of two bright colours set against a dark background, which gives it more impact.

The first of the three designs above is very bold and simple. Once again, I feel as though it has a chalkboard feel to it, and it stands out a lot because of the varying fonts. Mostly, I like the font that surrounded what appears to be the main component of the design in the middle because it looks as though it is coming away from the design, while the rest appears to be very flat.
The design int the middle is, once again, very simple yet eye catching. Because of the use of a couple of other colours that are limited, it gives the design more impact than if it had just been in white. I like the continuation of the font throughout the design as it shows continuation, and ocne again creates the shape of what the words are related to.
Lastly, the design on the left is very bust, however, because of the vary line thicknesses and font sizes, it is easier to pick out the information from the rest of the design that is more important.
The smaller designs surrounding the text are meant to fill up any empty space, and do so in what I feel is a very delicate manner, since the details aren't that heavy handed that they take the attention away from the actual words in the design.

I like this design because the words help to paint the picture more, and are more discrete that you could notice everything else before actually noticing the words. I like the colours because the seem toned down however are still very bright.
